Flags in Finland are flying at half staff today following Tuesday's Kauhajoki shooting.

The Ministry of the Interior has ordered all state offices and institutions to lower flags to half staff and issued a general recommendation for all flags to be flown at half staff for the day.

Flags were lowered at 8 AM local time Wednesday and are to be flown at half staff until sundown.

On Wednesday 11 people were killed and three injured by a student who opened fire with a pistol at the Kauhajoki School of Hospitality, a vocational school in western Finland. The 22 year-old assailant shot nine fellow students and one teacher before turning his pistol on himself. He died later in the day at Tampere University Hospital.
